V01: The Rose Beyond The Wall

A rose once grew,
where all could see,
sheltered beside a garden wall,
and, as the days passed
swiftly by,
it spread its branches,
straight and tall….

One day, a beam of light
shone through a crevice
that had opened wide –
The rose bent gently
toward its warmth
then passed beyond
to the other side….

Now, you who deeply
feel its loss,
be comforted –
the rose blooms there –
its beauty even greater now,
nurtured by God’s
own loving care.

V02: Softly In The Morning

Softly in the morning,
You heard a gentle call,
You took the hand God offered you,
And quietly left us all.

The day you left us mother,
Our hearts just broke in two,
The smallest part is still with us,
And the biggest part with you.

For the rest of our lives
we will miss you mother,
Our secret tears still flow,
Oh, how we really loved you,
No one will ever know.

We miss your smile,
your joking ways,
We miss the things, you used to say,
And when old times we do recall
It’s then we miss you most of all.

You were always there
when we needed you
No task too great or small,
With loving heart and willing hands,
For us you did it all.

Look around Your garden Lord,
And when she turns and smiles,
Put Your arms around her,
And hold her for a while.

V03: Togetherness

Death is nothing at all – I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before-only better, infinitely happier and forever-we will all be one together with Christ.

V04: Prayer to Saint Martin

Most glorious Martin De Porres whose burning charity embraced not only thy needy
brethren, but also the very animals of the field, splendid example of charity, we hail thee
and invoke thee! From that high throne which thou dost occupy, deign to listen to the
supplications of thy needy brethren that, by imitating thy virtues, we may live contented in
that state in which God has placed us and carrying with strength and courage our cross,
we may follow in the footsteps of Our Blessed Redeemer and His most afflicted Mother, that
at last we may reach the Kingdom of Heaven through the merits of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.

V06: His/Her Journey’s Just Begun

Don’t think of him as gone away –
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets –
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days or years.
Think how we must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched…
for nothing loved is ever lost –
and he was loved so much.

V07: For every pain…

For every pain

For every burden

THERE’S A REASON
For every grief

For every teardrop

THERE’S A REASON
For every hurt,
For every plight,
For every lonely
painracked night,
THERE’S A REASON
But if we trust in God
as we should,
It all will work out
For our good,
HE, KNOWS THE REASON

V10: One Fervent Hail Mary…

One fervent Hail Mary with
love and thought said,
Is better than volumes of
prayers poorly read.
If time and one’s duties
prevent a long prayer,
Just say one Hail Mary with
fervour and care.
The “Golden Hail Mary” which
from the heart springs,
The greatest of blessings
from Mary it brings.
And we never will know ‘til
before Mary’s throne,
How that daily Hail Mary
brought us to her home.

V11: Lonely is the home…

Lonely is the home without you,
Life to us is not the same;
All the world would be like heaven,
If we could have you back again.

What he suffered he told but a few,
He did not deserve what he went through,
Tired and weary he made no fuss,
But tried so hard to stay with us.

Our lips cannot speak how we loved him,
Our hearts cannot tell what we say,
But God only knows how we miss him,
In our home that is lonely today.

Pray for us O dearest father,
To Jesus Christ, Our King,
That He may bless our lonely home
Where thou once dwelt therein,

And pray that God may give us strength,
To bear our heavy cross;
For no one knows but only He,
The treasure we have lost.

Two willing hands are still;
The one who worked so hard for us,

how we miss her,
In our home that is lonely today.

Your life was love and labour,
Your love for your family true;

We will always remember you.

She bade no one a last farewell,
She raised her hand to none;

V17: Road To Eternity

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.

We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to
learn some things,
But never meant to stay…

Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know,
For some the journey’s quicker,
For some the journey’s slow.

But when the journey finally ends,
We’ll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.

V18: The Memorare

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help or sought Thy intercession, was left unaided. you have Eternal Life.

At night when all is silent,
and sleep forsakes my eyes,
I’ll hear his little footsteps

His little hands caress me,
so tenderly and sweet,
I’ll breathe a prayer
and close my eyes,
and embrace him in my sleep.

Now I have a treasure,
that rates above all others.

From that body to be free

V26: When I Leave

I am about to leave; my last breath does not say “goodbye” for my love for you is truly timeless. I leave myself not to the undertaker and the grave, but to your memory with love. I leave my thoughts, my laughter, my dreams to you whom I have treasured. I give you what no thief can steal, the memories of our times together; the tender, love-filled moments, the successes we have shared, the hard times that brought us closer together and the roads we have walked side by side. I also leave you a solemn promise that after I am home in the bosom of God, I will still be present in the communion of Saints, whenever and wherever you are in need, call me; I will come to you, with my arms full of wisdom and light to open up your blocked paths, to untangle your knots and to be your avenue to God. And all I take with me as I leave is your love and the millions of memories of all that we have shared. So fear not nor grieve at my departure, you whom I have loved so much, for my roots and yours are forever intertwined.

V27: Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

V34: To Those I Love

When I am gone, release me, let me go,
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me in tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave to you my love, you can only guess,
How much you gave to me in happiness,
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it’s time I travelled on alone.
So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust,
It’s only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near;
And if you listen with your heart you’ll hear
All of my love around you, soft and clear.
And then when you must come
this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile and a
“WELCOME HOME”.

V35: Safely Home

I am home in Heaven dear ones,
Oh, so happy and so bright,
There is perfect joy and beauty,
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over;
Every restless tossing passed.
I am now at peace forever,
Safely Home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly,
Trod the valley of the shade,
Oh, but Jesus’ love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me,
In that way so hard to tread.
And with Jesus’ arm to lean on
Could I have one doubt or dread.

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still.
Try to look beyond Earth’s shadows,
Pray to trust Our Father’s will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now while life remaineth.
You shall rest in Jesus’ land.

When the work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home.
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come.

V36: Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it.

“LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, You’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed You most You would leave me”.

The LORD replied, “My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you”.

V37: We seem to give…

We seem to give her back to you, O God who first gave her to us. Yet, as you did not lose her in the giving, so we do not lose her in the return to You. O Lover of men, You do not give as the world gives. What You give You do not take away, for what is Yours is ours also, if we are Yours. And life is eternal and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon, and an horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, strong Son of God, that we may see further; cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly. Draw us closer to You that we may know ourselves to be nearer to our loved ones who are with You. And while You prepare a place for us, prepare us also for that happy place, that where You are we may be also forever. Amen.

I pull your precious meaning,
Your bright spirit, from the air.

If I sometimes drift into
A lonely state of mind,
I gather up the memories
Of days we left behind.

And though you’re not beside me,
I can tap into my heart,
And draw upon the warmth and love,
That lives when we’re apart.

On the times when you were near,
I sense a little bit of what

V40: A light is from our household

A light is from our household gone,
A voice we loved is still,
A place is vacant in our home,

His spirit flew before we knew,
That he from us had gone.

You can only have one father,
Patient, kind and true.
No other friend in all the world,
Will be the same to you.
When other friends forsake you,
To father you will return,
For all his loving kindness,
He asks nothing in return.

As we look upon his picture,
Sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine,
And a smile for one and all.
Sweet Jesus take this message,
To our dear father up above,
Tell him how much we miss him,
And give him all our love.

V41: Gone Only From Our Sight

I am standing on the seashore.
Suddenly a ship at my side
spreads her white sails to
the morning breeze,
and starts out for the blue ocean.
She is an object of
beauty and strength,
And I stand and watch her
until at length she is only
a ribbon of white cloud
just above where the sea and sky
mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says:
“There! She’s gone!”

Gone where?
From my sight-that is all.
She is just as large in
mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side,
and just as able to bear
her load of living
freight to the place of destination.
Her diminished size
is in me, not in her,
and just at the moment when
someone at my side says:
“There, she’s gone!”
there are other voices ready
to take the glad shout,
“there! She comes!”

And that is dying.

V42: Beautiful Memories

Wishing God could have spared you
If just for a few more years.

each prayer we say,
Is offered up for you.

We cannot bring the old days back,
When we were all together,
The family chain is broken now,
But memories live forever.

May he rest in peace dear Jesus,
In Thy Heavenly home above,
With the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
In His Own Eternal Love.

Along the road to yesterday,
That leads us straight to you,
Are memories of happy days,
Together we once knew.

A silent grief that’s in our hearts
No human eye can trace,
For many a broken heart is hid
Beneath a smiling face.

V45: I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free,

To laugh, to love, to work or play,
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full,

A loved one’s touch.

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free

V49: Prayer to St. Teresa

O Little St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, during your short life on earth you became a mirror of angelic purity, of love strong as death and of wholehearted abandonment to God, now that you rejoice in the reward of your virtues, cast a glance of pity on me and listen to my prayer. I leave everything in your hands. Make my troubles your own. Speak a word for me to Our Lady Immaculate-to the Queen of Heaven, “who smiled on you at dawn of life.” Beg her as Queen of the Heart of Jesus, to obtain for me, by Her powerful intercession, the grace I yearn for so ardently at this moment. Each time we look at your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
Don’t be sad but courage take

They say that time will heal,
But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way we feel.

No one knows the heartache,

No one knows how many times,
We have broken down and cried.

We want to tell you something,

V56: She never failed to do her best…

She never failed to do her best,
Her heart was true and tender,
She worked and toiled
for those she loved,
And left them to remember.

We sat beside your bedside
Our hearts were crushed and sore.
We did our duty to the end
‘Til we could do no more.

In tears we watched you sinking
We watched you fade away,
And though our hearts were breaking
We knew you could not stay.

You left behind some aching hearts
That loved you most sincere.
We never shall and never will
Forget you Mother dear.

V58: Perhaps

PERHAPS, if we could see
The splendour of the land
To which our loved are called
from you and me,

PERHAPS, if you could hear
The welcome they receive
From old familiar voices –
all so dear –
WE WOULD NOT GRIEVE.

PERHAPS, if we could know
The reason why they went
We’d smile-and wipe away
the tears that flow,
WE’D WAIT CONTENT.

V59: It was a sudden parting…

It was a sudden parting,
Too bitter to forget,
Those who loved you dearly,
Are the ones who can’t forget.

We often sit and think of you,
And think of how you died;
To think you could not say goodbye
Before you closed your eyes.

Your life was one of kindly deeds,
A helping hand for others needs,
Sincere and true in heart and mind,
Beautiful memories left behind.

The blow was hard, the shock severe,
To part with one we loved so dear;
Our loss is great, we’ll not complain
But trust in God to meet again.

Two tired eyes are sleeping,
Two willing hands are still,
The one who worked so hard for us,
Is resting at God’s will.

Our family chain is broken,
Nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The links shall join again.

V60: There is a home that lies…

Awaits the one who’s now away,
Not lost-just gone before,
And in that home that lies beyond,
The Master will prepare
A place for you, and when He calls
You’ll meet your loved one there.

V68: He never thought when leaving…

She/He never thought
when leaving home,
He would never more return,
That he in death so
soon would sleep,

A sudden call from God on high,
You had no chance to say goodbye,
Without farewell you fell asleep,
But memories of you I’ll always keep;
And those who loved you dearly,
Are the ones who won’t forget.

No farewells were spoken,
We did not say goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why;
But we always will remember,
Our whole life through,
The last words we had with you.

We never fail to pray for you,
We never cease to care,
We wish we could

To the Throne of Christ

And with us he will stand,
And that golden chain

Locked by Christ’s Own Hands.

V69: A Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument
of Your peace.
Where there is hatred,
let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled,
as to console;
To be understood,
as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that
We receive—
It is in pardoning that we are
pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life.

V70: Prayer Before A Crucifix

Behold, O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself on my knees in Your sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and implore You to impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity, with true repentance for my sins and a firm desire of amendment, while with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate Your five wounds, having before my eyes that which David spoke in prophesy of You, O good Jesus: “They pierced My hands and My feet and they have numbered all My bones”.

V71: A loving father/mother most sincere

A loving father most sincere
Loved by all he knew,
He loved us all so very dear,
And we all loved him too.
But God in His mercy will give us hope,
And help us bear the strain,
Of the one we cherished, loved and lost,
To meet in Heaven again.

He bade no-one a last farewell,
He raised his hand to none;
His spirit flew before we knew,
That he from us had gone.

You can only have one father,
Patient, kind and true.
No other friend in all the world,
Will be the same to you.
When other friends forsake you,
To father you will return,
For all his loving kindness,
He asks nothing in return.

As we look upon his picture,
Sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine,
And a smile for one and all.
Sweet Jesus take this message,
To our dear father up above,
Tell him how much we miss him,
And give him all our love.

V72: A Perfect Trust

Oh! for the peace of perfect trust,
My loving God in Thee;
Unwavering faith that never doubts,

Best, though my plans be all upset;

Best, though my earthly store be scant;
In Thee I have enough.

Best, though my health and strength be gone,
Though weary days be mine,
Shut out from much that others have,
Not my will, Lord but Thine!

And e’en though disappointments come,
They too are best for me,
To wean me from this changing world,
And lead me near Thee.

Oh! for the peace of a perfect trust,
That looks away from all;
That sees Thy hand in everything,
In great events and small.

That hears Thy voice, a Father’s voice,
Directing for the best;
Oh! for the peace of a perfect trust,
A heart with Thee at rest.

V76: God’s Lent Child

“I’ll lend you for a little while, a child of mine, God said,
“For you to love the while she lives, and mourn
for when she’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or forty-two or three.
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me?
She’ll bring her charms to gladden you and
should her stay be brief,
You’ll always have her memories
as a solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught below I want
this child to learn.
I’ve looked this whole world over in my search
for teachers true,
And from the folks that crowd life’s lane,
I have chosen you.”
“Now will you give her all your love nor think
the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take this lent child
back again?”
I fancied that I heard her say, “dear Lord Thy Will be done.
For all the joys Thy child will bring, the risk of
grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter her with tenderness, we’ll love her
while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay.
But should the Angels come for her
much sooner than we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.”

V98: When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me,

While thinking of the many things,

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,

God alone will ever know.

R

Your life was love and labour,
Your love for your family true,
You did your best for all of us
We will always remember you.

S

Just a prayer from the
family who loved you,
Just a memory fond and true,
In our hearts you
will live forever,
Because we thought
the world of you.

T

God grant me the Serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change…
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.

U

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits
me here, ever this day,
be at my side to light
and guard, to rule and guide.

V

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane,
I’d walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.

W

Our hearts still
ache with sadness,
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you –
No one can ever know.

X

Loving you is easy,
We do it every day,
Missing you is a heartache,
That never goes away.

Y

God saw the road
was getting rough,
The hill was hard to climb,
He gently closed
your weary eyes,
And whispered
“Peace be thine”.

Z

Sacred Heart of Jesus
I place all my trust
in Thee.
